Ilaria Sadun
Architect
by training, painter by passion. Ilaria got her inspiration for Metamorphosi
after travelling in Latin America during the early nineties. For two years
she volunteered in Nicaragua on a project that helped local artisans effectively
market their own art and develop opportunities for environment-friendly
public recreation in their outdoor areas. On her own, in Nicaragua and
Costa Rica, she made watercolor illustrations of the plants of the rainforests,
and designed, produced and sold clothing and fashion accessories based
on natural materials and natural dyes.
The idea for using previously used glass as an artistic medium came from
a woman, who recycled used bottles to make useful homeware, a fifty-year
family tradition that had been taught to her by her father. Ilaria was
inspired to take the use of recycled bottles even further by using her
own artistic ability to transform bottles into decorative and functional
art that would not only give back positive energy to those who enjoy it,
but would also be a vehicle to give back to the community in other tangible
ways, such as through donating proceeds from sales to environmental preservation
organizations.
